What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is defined as a marketing arrangement by which an online retailer pays a commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals. Affiliate marketing is a practice where brands and companies collaborate with other companies and influencers to promote their products or services in return for a certain percentage of commission. Two main parties are involved in this process, namely an affiliate- the person who promotes the products and the company- whose product is being promoted. Affiliate marketing primarily is a performance-based marketing strategy. It is based on revenue sharing meaning there is an agreement between the affiliate and the company which states the percentage is granted to the affiliate on every sale as a commission by the company. Example: Amazon. Anybody can affiliate their products at amazon website, and with every sale, amazon takes a percentage of the revenue from the seller.

Power of affiliate marketing

• One of the most prominent peculiarities about affiliate marketing is that it entails very low to almost negligible cost/capital. Which leads to minimalistic risks possibilities. Also, an affiliate gets paid only when the sale is made, which eradicates the issues and risks involved with payment.

• For an affiliate, they need not worry about producing the goods and services for which they have to promote the products to their existing audience. Whereas for the company, the process of marketing their products get eliminated, they gain customers through the promotional activities of affiliates. The company targets the existing audience of affiliates who have the same niche, so the company does not require to build an audience of its own. It is a profitable situation for both parties.
